From the Sukkoth Readings --
And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not wholly reap the corner of thy field, neither shalt thou gather the gleaning of thy harvest; thou shalt leave them for the poor, and for the stranger: I am the LORD your God.I know that these verses only apply to the land of Israel, but if the religious right is so keen to place the U.S. under the yoke of Levitical law, why are they not pushing for government to regulate farming so that it conforms to this most important law? If we are to establish the New Jerusalem here, shouldn't implimenting the laws the Bible describes as necessary for the Israelites to stay in the Holy Land be of top priority? But I guess worrying about people's sex lives is more fun, eh?
